CAN CONSISTENCY BEAT TALENT❓🏆

"If you want to master a habit, the key is to start with REPITITION not PERFECTION"

Do you believe in the power of consistency?

Do you think consistency can make people succeed?

If we ask a person, what are the things which really successful people have that others are not having, the most expected answer to this question would be genes, luck, talent... But, do you believe that, doing the same things over and over again can result in the person  mastering that particular skill?

Let's explore this with the help of the Polgar Sisters Experiment

A Hungarian man named Laszlo Polgar was a firm believer of hard work. He completely rejected the idea of innate talent and claimed that with deliberate practice and the development of good habits, a child could become a genius in any field. His mantra was "A genius is not born, but is educated and trained".

Laszlo believed in this idea so strongly that he wanted to test it with his own children. Laszlo decided chess would be a suitable field for the experiment and he laid out a plan to raise his children to become chess prodigies. The house would be filled with chess books and pictures of famous chess players. The children would play against each other constantly and compete in the best tournaments they could find. Their lives would be dedicated to chess.

Klara, a Ukranian lady although was not as insistent as Laszlo but she also believed that with proper instruction, anyone could advance their skills. Laszlo successfully courted Klara and within a few years, the Polgars were parents to three young girls Susan, Sofia and Judit.

Susan, the oldest, began playing chess when she was four years old. Within six months, she was defeating adults. Sofia, the middle child did even better. By fourteen, she was a world champion and a few years later she became a grandmaster. Judit, the youngest was the best of all. By age five, she could beat her father. At fifteen years and four months old, she became the youngest grandmaster of all time, younger than Bobby Fischer, the previous record holder. For twenty-seven years, she was the number-one-ranked female chess player in the world.

So, this was the experiment of Laszlo Polgar which proved that,

☆ The culture we live in determines which behaviours are attractive to us.

☆ The more early you start working on your goals, the more edge you will have over others.

☆ Consistency can beat talent in the long run. Being talented will never deliver results until you work for it.
